The Seldovia Village Tribal Council has enhanced its members’ representation to the environmental community through the establishment of an Environmental Office. The Seldovia Village Tribal Environmental Office opened on February 16, 2001 under Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Grant funding for the Indian General Assistance Program (IGAP). Since its opening, the Environmental Office has provided a voice through many different avenues for Tribal Members and Seldovia community members regarding environmental issues in Seldovia and the Kachemak Bay area. One of these avenues is an active voice to the EPA for contaminants studies and concerns about our local resources. Additionally, the Tribal Environmental Office has set up educational presentations and co-participation with Susan B. English School. Our recently finished educational curriculum is available through the SVT Environmental Office. It is our goal to help educate our children and community regarding environmental issues. Visit our office for more detailed information about this program. A collection of other information, films and books concerning environmental issues that relate directly to Alaska Native/American Indian families is available through the Tribal Environmental Office. The Seldovia Village Tribal Environmental Office is open Monday through Friday during the hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 p.m. Individuals can call the office with questions at (907) 234-7898 ext.222 or email Michael Opheim at mopheim@svt.org.
