The Seldovia Village Tribe Prevention Program provides quality, comprehensive outpatient alcohol and drug abuse treatment services to adults and youth in Seldovia providing counseling and referral services to self referred and court referred clients of all ages. There is typically no waiting list for services at the Prevention Program. Fees for counseling services are calculated using a sliding fee scale based on the client's ability to pay for services received. All services are strictly confidential. An appointment can be made with the counselor by calling the office during regular business hours.
SVT believes that chemical dependency is a treatable illness and that the chemically dependent person who is physically and emotionally able to function in his or her environment can recover on an outpatient basis. The primary objective for treatment is a life free of alcohol and other drugs and an improvement in life functioning. The Prevention Program recognizes chemical dependency as a family problem, and offers outpatient treatment for the entire family utilizing a Family Systems treatment modality. Family support and education is also offered to the family of individuals referred to residential treatment in an effort to assure family support for the recovering person. SVT Prevention Program recognizes the therapeutic relationship as a key component in the treatment process. Prevention Program counselors work to establish an empathetic relationship with the client, recognizing client strengths and encouraging the development of these strengths. SVT Prevention Program also believes that the client is actually the single most potent contributor to outcome in treatment. In agreement with motivational techniques, the counselor is called upon to challenge and support the client in the process of discovering their own solutions to the problems in their lives. The Prevention Program can assist individuals to access other services such as mental health, residential alcohol treatment, women's services, vocational rehabilitation, public assistance and medical assistance. Help is available for people needing financial assistance with travel to residential alcohol treatment. Crisis counseling and informal motivational counseling is also available to anyone in need of a listening ear, or help deciding where to turn. Continuing Care is offered to individuals returning to Seldovia from residential treatment, as well as people having successfully completed their outpatient treatment.
